Teach Kids How to Write the Alphabet

A Simple Way to Teach Kids How to Write the Alphabet

It’s one thing to learn the sounds of the alphabet letters, but teaching kids how to write the alphabet letters is a little more challenging.  It can often be quite frustrating — for them and you.  But not anymore!  Now there’s an easy and enjoyable way to teach kids how to write the alphabet.

Experts agree that giving personal attributes to the letters goes a very long way to helping a child learn how to write the alphabet letters.  That’s where Alphabet Anatomy can help — A LOT — in a very unique way.

Similar to the ABC song, you can begin reciting Alphabet Anatomy’s rhymes to your child at a very young age.  Then when the time comes for your child to begin writing letters, simply continue to recite each verse as your child writes that letter, with the goal being that your child memorize the verse to facilitate his/her own visual and auditory recall.

Meet Some of Our Letters

For example, letter A’s verse states: “A has a point at the top of her head.  Under her belt, she hides apples so red.  A – Apples”

When repeating the verse, your child will know that letter A has a point at the very top and a line (representing her belt) across the middle.

Let’s look at letter C’s verse:  “C is a circle that doesn’t quite close.  Her right side stays open where cats like to doze.  C – Cats”

Reciting letter C’s verse, your child will know that letter C looks like a circle; however, her right side remains open (which provides additional instruction on right and left direction).

Keep in mind to instruct your child to always begin at the top when writing each alphabet letter.

One more example!   “F, fit and fine, both arms straight to the right.  Fitness is his thing, all day and all night.  F – Fitness”

Looking at letter F and reciting the rhyme, your child will know that letter F stands tall and that he has two arms that are stretched out to the right.  This will also help eliminate writing the letters backwards since the rhyme specifies to the right and not the left.

Rhymes for each alphabet letter…  How easy is that!

Find Creative Ways to Practice Letter Writing

Remember to also use different methods and materials other than pencil and paper when teaching kids how to write the alphabet:

  • Flour on the kitchen counter
  • Shaving cream in the bathtub
  • Salt in a cake pan or baking dish
  • Sand in a basin or sandbox
  • Finger motions in the air
  • Finger-painting on paper
  • Molding letters with play-dough

And this one that I recently saw using highlighters for tracing.  Your child can trace the letters while reciting the rhymes as well.

Practice Makes Perfect

These activities will help your child become familiar with the alphabet and also help develop the necessary fine motor skills needed to hold a pencil properly and write the alphabet letters correctly.

Alphabet Anatomy will provide your child with a fun, easy, and innovative method for how to write the alphabet letters in addition to learning their sounds and shapes.

And hopefully save both of you lots of frustration!
